Children of God, Wolves in Sheep's Clothing
Acts 20:29 I know that after my going away oppressive WOLVES will
enter in among YOU and will not treat the flock with tenderness,
20:30 and from among YOU yourselves men will rise and speak twisted
things to draw away the disciples after themselves.
These words show that in quick time Christianity would not be
treated as was originally intended. Evil would creep in making it
hard for those trying to live by christian principals. One group
that needs public awareness today is the group Children of God which
The Cult Observer noted on page 3 of it's recent issue Vol 11 #3
1994 that "..is putting on a new face forward in the United States
in an attempt to win acceptance and come out of the shadow of a past
where members were known for sharing sexual partners among
themselves and their proselytes (called "flirty fishing") [as well
as for alleged promotion of sexual relations among children and
between adults and children]
The danger that this network see's in THE FAMILY is not what they
NOW believe but how in the past they believed the things they DID
believe. In this authors research I have never seen a more
perverted, depraved sick group as the Children of God ( COG ). How
any group like this could and can pass itself off as a "Christian "
religion is a perfect example of being "blinded by the light
mentality". How a group like this lead by a 75 yr old demented sex
pervert, David Berg could exist and flourish in the society we live
today is a sad statement of facts for the moral decay cults can and
will go to to preach their prophets end of the world predictions.
Briefly and I mean briefly I will mention some things this group has
done in it's past so YOU can be the judge of rather this group is a
genuine cult or a new creation of God like the group wants to be
seen as today. (Father) David Berg as he is called was born in 1919.
( When I hear a group leader called "Father" my Biblical warning
lights go off with this scripture:
[Matthew] 23:9 Moreover, do not call anyone YOUR FATHER on earth,
for one is YOUR FATHER, the heavenly One.
So that get's us off to a wonderful start wouldn't you say? David
Berg was raised in a "christian environment" which unfortunately
included an incestuous sexual relationship with a female cousin at
age seven. By the time he was a teen he was obsessed with sex and
masturbation.
In 1944 Berg married and had four children who would later play an
important role in the early day's of the C.O.G.
During the 1950's Berg searched for the perfect church and found his
calling on a gospel TV show called Jordan's Gospel TV.
While on the road away from his wife, Berg visited prostitutes and
indulged in adulterous affairs. He also began sexually molesting his
youngest daughter, Faithy, and by the time she was twelve he was
having sexual intercourse with her. During the 60's Berg continued
to serve God and his flesh which now included astrology and
spiritism. A side point, usually when one of these sins is indulged
in others follow as the scriptures state:
[Galatians] 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, and they
are fornication, uncleanness, loose conduct, 5:20 idolatry, practice
of SPIRITISM, enmities, strife, jealousy, fits of anger,
contentions, divisions, sects, 5:21 envies, drunken bouts,
revelries, and things like these. As to these things I am
forewarning YOU, the same way as I did forewarn YOU, that those who
practice such things will not inherit God's kingdom. Just a side
point because Berg apparently missed these scriptures in HIS Bible!!!
Eventually Berg made it to Huntington Beach California and he began
witnessing to hippies. Like Jim Jones, Berg did actually do some
good in these early hippie day's by rescuing some from a life of
drugs to his special gospel.
As a result of this many forsook jobs, education, family and all
material possessions to join the COG.
Berg eventually deserted his wife and began living in adultery with
a new disciple named Karen Zerby ( renamed Maria ).
At this time ( if things weren't bizarre enough ) Berg got help from
a "spirit guide" a supposed gypsy from the 1200'0's Abrahim whom
Berg claimed was sent from God.
So as you can see Berg was a well rounded pervert, I can't think of
anything else that wasn't done that wasn't Biblically CONDEMNED!!!
