UNIFICATION CHURCH
INSIDER - SECRET DOCTRINES
Two Churches
I always say that there are two Unification Churches. There is The Unification Church (UC) as it is presented to the public. Then there is The Unification Church as it really is. The Unification Church as presented to the public seems harmless enough. One cannot help but laud it's professed goals of strengthening family's through strict moral discipline and publicly serving the needs of humanity. But it is this second Unification Church, the one I witnessed and participated in as a member that is of concern. The reality of that church as being so completely opposed to the expressed goals of the Movement's public face is both staggering and sobering. It is sobering because one cannot help but question the mental (and moral) stability of those who so "earnestly" promote moral teachings and practices believing that the church they have sacrificed all for adheres to those morals. And simultaneously "earnestly" violate those morals and teachings without even the first notion that they in fact are doing so. It is absolutely identical to a person who says "I am one hundred percent in favor of Bill Clinton as a President." and simultaneously says "I am one hundred percent opposed to Bill Clinton as President." All the while thinking that these opposites can both be true at the same time, and finding no contradiction at all in the process. I think this is a perfect reflection of the daily life of Moonies. It is sad, and frightening as well because it is almost schizophrenic that a person can be so far removed from reality that though they are fully aware that public statements and private actions are in opposition to one another, they see themselves as honest when portraying either "statement" as "true". To most of us it is clear that if there are two opposed statements concerning a certain matter, and one were true , then the other would have to be false. Not to a Moonie. Paradoxically , both can be true, and the impetus is Moon. Moon can say absolutely contradictory things, and a member will accept both as true without questioning him at all. That my friend is a frightening prospect, and you will see more of what I mean here, and in other articles I've written critiquing Moon's theology.
Jesus as The Messiah
Publicly, any Moonie will tell you that he believes that Jesus Christ was The Unique Son of God. That He was divine, that he was the Savior and The Messiah. They will profess the utmost love and respect for Jesus' sacrificial life and death. They will tell you that Jesus offers man spiritual salvation and that if you believe in Him you can partake in that gift. A Christian who didn't know how to follow through by asking the right questions could very well think he was among "brethren" and if he had previously believed that the UC was a heretical cult he may now find himself in real confusion after hearing the previous statements. Some members even believe that it was in fact Jesus Himself who spiritually guided them into the movement. I don't believe that to be the case for one moment, because all the previous statements that members make concerning Jesus (when talking with outsiders) become insincere when compared with Moon's actual teachings about Jesus , and the Bible's own guidelines for who Jesus is and how we are to respond to Him.
Moon Married Jesus So That
Christ Could Go To Heaven !
The Moonies believe that Jesus was the son of God but could not enter heaven without receiving first the "Marriage Blessing" from Moon. Moonies teach that you must be married before you can go to Heaven , and of course Jesus died never having been married , so He did not go to Heaven (although the Bible clearly says He did), but instead, Moonies teach that He went to "Paradise", which they claim is not Heaven at all, but a lower spiritual realm than Heaven. Since Moon became the Messiah, however,so that Jesus could go to Heaven, Moon married Jesus to an oriental member of Moon's church. This woman lives and is known to the members as Jesus wife. This is not well known to non-members. I am aware of it because I was a member in good standing and very close to Moon personally for a number of years. I would say that the greater portion of members who have been in more than a few years are aware of this fact. To understand more about this marriage blessing and it's fallacies read my critique of "The Blessing" where this information is detailed. Many so-called Christian leaders have taken money from Moon in the form of speaking fees and numerous other activities in which they participate with his church. This is abhorrent. Moon is an Antichrist , quite simply , anyone who says they are the Christ when they are not would fit this description. Thankfully, a Christian who reads the Bible would be able to avoid Moon's lies with one simple verse. Jesus warning about false Christ's that would come in the last days, gave this stern warning nearly two thousand years ago:
Matthew 24:23
"Then if any man shall say
unto you, Lo, here is Christ,
or there; believe it not."
That is a stern admonition and leaves no room for mistakes. Jesus said "If any man..." shall say that the Christ is here or anywhere, we are not to believe them. Period. What few members consider (most don't even know about this verse) is that to follow Moon they actually have to disobey Jesus' instruction. That is a serious matter for people who say they "believe" in Jesus. Clearly they really don't believe in Jesus. Jesus is called a "Victor" in the Bible. He said that He had in fact "Overcome the world", that He saw "Satan fall like lightning from Heaven" after the good reports from the disciples who He had sent out to spread the gospel. If you read the Bible without a Moonie present, Jesus is never portrayed as anything less than a great victor ! The Son of God who conquered death and sin ! And if a Moonie was talking with a Christian, they would say the same thing. But not when talking to other members. Privately, Moon has said , and this is a direct quote "Therefore we can say that Jesus life was a failure...". That is the private view of Jesus. Jesus was a failure. Moonies will dent this, but there are Moon's words right there saying so. Moonies will say "But it wasn't Jesus fault, he had no support from his family or John the Baptist, that's why he couldn't succeed, not because of His own doing." Alas, it is true that this view is taught in the UC, but recalling the schizophrenic nature of this movement, they also teach (I learned this myself in the forty day training in New York) that Jesus didn't love John the Baptist enough, and that is why John didn't follow Him. This is not a unique situation, but in circumstance after circumstance, Moonies are speaking out of both sides of their mouths, and believing they are being honest all the while. It is truly frightening.
OK, further evidence of Moonies absolute lack of veneration to Jesus lies in several other statements made by Moon. Moon had a son who died in a tragic car accident. His son had been engaged to be married , but died before this could take place. Moon married his son (in the spiritual world) to this girl, who lives even today as Moon's daughter in law, presumably waiting for the day she too passes into death to join her husband. Since marrying his son (after death) Moon has proclaimed that his son is in charge of the entire spiritual world and that even Jesus bows down to and serves Moon's son. Not only does this fly in the face of Christians everywhere, but it even contradicts Moon's own teaching that because of him, the birthright has been restored. In other words, Moon teaches that the elder brother must serve the younger brother, rather than traditionally how the elder receives the greater inheritance and also the position of authority in the family after the father has passed on. Moon says this is reversed because of the fall of Adam and Eve, but now that he has come as the new Messiah, he says it has been restored. Why then should Jesus, whom even Moonies call their "elder brother" serve Moon's young son. Both Jesus and Moon's son had died before getting married, and both were married in the spiritual world after death (only according to Moon's far fetched philosophy of course). They were in equal circumstances except that Jesus died on a cross to save humanity, where Moon's son simply hit a truck head on with friends in a car accident.Moon's son is lauded as a hero who died no less an important and world changing death as Jesus Christ did. But here is Moon teaching, first the heretical doctrine that Jesus is married to a physical Unification Church member, and then the equally heretical teaching that Jesus is bowing down in the spiritual world to Moon's deceased son. Absolute blasphemy, and even a contradiction of Moon's own philosophies. We can begin to see that truth is irrelevant. It is only Moon and his "true family" that matter. God must take a back seat.
Moon's Son Reincarnated
& Moon's Spiritual Powers
As mentioned above, Moon's son is held up as Lord of the spiritual world. He seems not content to have just been in the spiritual world however, and has also has made an appearance on the Earth after his death. Quite a few years back, Moon's dead Korean son was said to have been reincarnated into an African named "Cloephas". This person was a strong individual who went around , apparently with Moon's acceptance, and beat people for their sins. He punched them and kicked them and put at least one or two into the hospital. If I am not mistaked , one member sued over his own injuries. Bo Hi Pak, who has been Moon's trusted right hand man almost since the beginning was beated by this individual so badly that he is reported to have suffered brain damage from the beating. This stands in stark contrast to the peaceful world the Unificationists claim to be creating. I am reminded of the Vietnam war captain who said "We had to kill the city to save it". Nevertheless, there are several other questions that demand explanation. One is: If Moon is the victor of the spiritual world, that he say he is, if he so easily travels through the spiritual world as he says he does, conversing with whatever dead person he wants to. Then why on Earth does he send a trusted leader on an airplane to ask this African if he was really Moon's dead son ? Why couldn't Moon go himself in the spiritual world and ask his own son "Son, did you reincarnate into this African person ?". This question is very serious as well, for members to ask , because it is Moon's contention that all people in the world are supposed to be spiritually open and able to converse with their dead relatives. Moon claims that because of the fall of mankind, this ability was lost for most people. Moon says that as people grow spiritually to be like him, they will be able to converse with spirits as easily as he does. He claims that death would not be a sad thing as people learn to communicate with their deceased relatives. This in fact, is one of the strong promises and selling points as laid out in "The Principle of Creation" one of the lectures on Moon's teaching. So why is it that Moon , as the prime example of spiritual fortitude is not able to question his son himself, but sends people on an airplane with some questions to ask his son, to see if it really is his son, and then must wait several days for the answer. This is inconsistent with Moon's own proclamations and philosophies.
Recently, Moon's son Hyo Jin was divorced for various mental and physical abuses of his wife, according to her testimony in the court case. Hyo Jin himself admits to a cocaine drug habit that has been treated at the Betty Ford Clinic unsuccessfully (He was kicked out for not cooperating). There is an excellent "Robert Parry News Article" On the problem's in Moon's "True Family" and the embarrassment it has caused his movement. In an interview with a reporter from the Boston Globe, Hyo Jin's ex-wife revealed how she had been selected by a psychic as Hyo Jin's wife at 15 years of age. This was particularly interesting information to me, because I had been taught in the UC that Moon was the most spiritually qualified matchmaker in the world, that he was training others to do this but it took years. Here is a psychic (not a church member) that Moon has entrusted his son's life to. This is not a unique occurance. It is well documented that Moon often visits psychics throughout the world. In speeches he has made, Moon himself has said that the greatest psychics in the world will tell you who I am. And curiously, this is supposed to confirm for a person that he should follow Moon, and yet few if any of these "World Famous Psychics" follow Moon themselves. Moon teaches that to go to heaven you must receive the "blessing" of marriage that he gives. And yeat , I don't know of even one of these psychics who have done so. They are great psychics, right ? Don't they know that they won't go to Heaven if they don't receive Moon's blessing ? You would think, as psychics, they would be lining up in droves , that Moon would be able to give an "All Psychic" marriage of thousands, That would make some headlines ! But of course this never happens. Is Moon lying ? Or maybe these "psychics" are gluttons for punishment ? More likely , Moon knows that the suggestion of something is almost as good as it's reality. Moon knows that he can make a statement like that and no one will actually go to a famous psychic to inquire about Moon. Of concern to Christians even more, are the Bible verses which categorically state that God's people , are never to visit psychics. As the Bible so wisely asks "Why do you inquire of the dead ? Should not a people inquire of their God ?" And of course this is an excellent question for Moonies, who are encouraged to get answers from dead people. What more does a dead person know about God than you do ? The Bible says that God is all knowing and will answer us when we pray to him. Wouldn't you want your questions answered by an "All Knowing" God who created you, rather than some dead relative who you didn't bother asking these things when they were alive ? It is just sheer lunacy. Or maybe Moonies just like a challenge ? :-)
Unification View of Abortion
I would say that no Christians who participate with Moon and his church are aware of his church's position on abortion. The moonies have several doctrines on the matter laid out in the "Tradition Book" , which is just that, a book detailing proper protocol for Moonies regarding spiritual and moral traditions they are to uphold. This book states that the decision on abortion is to be left in the hands of the parents. Moon himself has not spoken much on abortion. But this book states that abortion "IS" acceptable to rectify any "break in the Spiritual Order of Things. As a former member , I can tell you that a "Break in the spiritual order of things" is anything that Moon or a church leader says it is. As an example, I can describe a conversation I once had with my own church leader as a new member. I was told that we had to follow the church leaders recommendation on every matter of significance in our church life. This leader told me that he knew of a couple who had gone through their "Three Day Ceremony" (a ceremony of consummating the marriage, where the couple has sex on three consecutive nights, using the sexual positions they are told to use each night). Well this couple had done their ceremony and the wife became pregnant from it. You are not supposed to get pregnant from this ceremony. Because she had not received permission from the leader to start their family (have children) , she was ordered by the leader to have an abortion. I was told this by my leader in the church himself. It coincides with the loose description given in the Tradition Book (any-break in the spiritual order) and I think that it should be reprehensible to anyone , no matter their views on abortion, that a person could be so controlled as to be ordered to have that done to them regardless of their own possible desires to have the child. No person, no group has the right to so dominate people's lives. It is inexcusable.
Indemnity Ceremony
(Beating Your Spouse)
This ceremony has been toned down recently, as Moon has sought to make his church more popular for the masses, but until recently, Moonies could expect to go through a special ceremony as part of their "marriage" commitment. The ceremony is called "The Indemnity Ceremony" and involves a husband first and then the wife next, take up huge thick sticks (about the thickness of a small bat, similar to that used in stick ball) and beat each other on the buttocks three times as hard as they are physically able to. This is to purify them sexually as a religious rite. But the practice, besides being inhuman, and degrading, was very dangerous. Many people have passed out from the pain, including a friend of mine (a man) who was taken to the hospital. The leader oversees the beatings and if he ever feels that one spouse has not hit the other with all his might, then he will pick up the stick himself and hit them for him all over again. This is also very unfair to the female, as she is the one who is to be beaten first. After nearly passing out, it is doubtful she has much strength left to return the favor to her husband.
Rather than being anything of value to God, this is just another sick practice of a destructive cult with more secret bizarre practices than openly honest and wholesome ones. It is so interesting that one young man who had been caught breaking into cars in Singapore a few years ago , was to endure an almost identical punishment there. This nation rose up and decried the inhumanity of such public displays of brutal punishment. Even the President had denounced it , and yet , here are millions of Moonies who have undergone the same abuse, half of them being women. Absolutely abhorrent. It is really done, as so many other Unification Church practices, to keep the member in a dependent infantile state. Other examples are being told how to go to the bathroom, members forced to sit on the floor during lectures from Moon, while he sits, king like, over them in a comfortable chair. Sitting on the floor, with him above you in a chair, brings out paternal senses and helps you see Moon as a father figure, which is what he wants as a control tactic. To be able to completely dominate members. You have to wait on permission to do virtually anything as a full time member. You are chastised constantly and have to ask for everything. It is all very infantile and for this reason, many members even in their forties seem very childlike, but not in a good way. Many of them have in fact been kept by Moon in their twenties. Dependant on Moon and leaders as ever for their decisions. It is a tragic side effect of this cult. Members believe that childish look is an example of hom Moon has made them "pure and innocent" when really they are simply childish.
Holy Wine & Using The Restroom
I won't dwell a lot on these issues. But, when you are married by Moon, you are given a small vial of dark red liquid to drink (I think of Jim Jones every time I discuss this) The red liquid is called "Holy Wine". It is said that when you drink this wine it is what changes your blood lineage from satan's to God's. The Holy Wine contains, according to official church sources, Moon's and his wife's blood and flesh (presumably in microscopic amounts, for the number of people he has married). It is also said to contain a particle of everything that exists in creation mixed into it , so that it represents the entirety of the cosmos and the person drinking it becoming a Lord of Creation, with a new blood lineage. Outsiders are not told these things. Members know very well about them, although they would most likely argue them (from embarrassment) publicly. This is what is taught in the Forty Day Training in New York. I, and thousands of others have gone through this training and heard the same things. Rev. Ahn was the teacher when I was there. He had been teaching for many years Moon's doctrines to us believers. He told us that everything he taught was personally approved by Moon before he would ever teach them in class. He shared about the true nature of the Holy Wine, and even told us that Moon's and His wife's blood had been saved for future blessings after they die. (Although I never understood why Moon's children couldn't suffice) I have also heard (I was not taught this in 40 day) that when Moon's wife first became pregnant with the first "True Child" that there was a ceremony where members drank her breast milk. I cannot confirm that this occurred, but with all the other strange practices, I believe it ! Certainly not Christian, Moon's church practices have much more in common with the occult. You can read more about this in my "Occultic Practices Of The Moonies".Members lives are so controlled that they even are instructed on which hand to use when cleaning themselves with toilet paper after using the toilet. A good member will use the correct hand (The Left). He will also only step into a room with the correct foot first (The Right). There are many other such absolute instructions on walking, sleeping, being out with your wife, and even sex!
Three Day Sexual Ceremony
A Moonie only has sex for the first time as a couple in the Three Day Ceremony. They are told that the woman must be on top of the man for sex, the first two nights, symbolizing Eve's fall (Moon teaches that eve had sex with satan, and that this is the Original Sin) and then on the third and final night, the man has sex on top of the woman symbolizing Adam reasserting dominance over the woman. After this, the man is only to be on top of the woman for the rest of their lives during sex. Although Moon has changed his mind on this apparently, as I have found speeches where he speaks graphically about sex (he often does) and that a woman can be on top if she wants to. As I said, contradiction and changing philosophies are the norm in this church and not the exception. Which is so funny because for the first many years of his teaching, Moon always told people that God, and God's laws are "absolute" that God himself is unchanging and absolute. So funny. Moon changes his tune every other month, and the members , possibly blinded by Mind Control happily follow along uncritical of their contradicting Messiah. Sexuality plays a huge role in all of Moon's teachings. If you ask them they will say it is because sex was the original sin and it is therefore very important to use sex properly, that is why Moon speaks on it so often. If you ask me, I believe that Moon is simply a sexual maniac, who is afraid of his own undisciplined sexual desires and projects them on others in the form of "Absolute Religious Standards". I say this because of the charges of sexual infidelity and wanton sexual gratuitousness that have plagued Moon throughout his life. I have posted the commentaries of some of Moon's followers and ex-followers on this in my "Members Discuss Moon's Lurid Lifestyle". Not to mention charges of sex orgies as sexual purification rites in his early church, It is fact that Moon had a child with a university student before ever divorcing his first wife. Wisely, she did divorced him shortly after this child of a young university student was born from Moon's sexual affair with her.
American Women Born Of Prostitutes
Moon clearly is obsessed with sex. Many of his speeches are peppered with sexual innuendo and instruction. All the how-to's are laid out for Moon's eager listeners. There are also the frequent bizarre declarations as well. In one speech, Moon says that American women are descended from the lineage of prostitutes In another he says that women with large breasts and small hips are unbalanced and will be eliminated by the universe for their top heaviness. He also very soberly explains in one sermon how women's breasts should be of equal size. If one is lower than the other that is not good Moon says, and women should correct that problem (although he doesn't tell them how).
Moon tells his followers that the women of his church are like concubines in relationship to him and should love him as a concubine (mistress) would the man she is having an affair with. Moon says his female followers must love him more than they love their own husbands. In one speech, Moon says that people do not need sexual instruction because it comes naturally , but then he goes on in the same speech, to do just that. Graphically instruct people on how to have sex. He speaks constantly on "The Sexual Organ" and asks his own members if they think that Moon as the Messiah has a gold plated sexual organ ! This is disgusting commentary in a public forum, where children could be present, not to mention that Moon is drawing his members attention, purposefully, to his own sexual organ.
Idolatry : Worshipping Moon &
The Nation of Korea
Faithful Moonies are up every Sunday morning at 5:00 AM, while most of us are sleeping. They dress in their best suits and dresses and go to an alter where a picture of Moon and his wife have been placed. They offer some prayers and then read a pledge card that commits the reader's life to The True Parents (Moon and his wife) and also to the Fatherland , which is Korea. No matter what country you are a citizen of, were born in, or now live in, Moonies are pledging allegiance to the Nation of Korea as the homeland they would give their lives for ! Members are even encouraged to say the pledge in the Korean language, no matter what language they speak.
After the pledge, members faithfully place their hands on their foreheads and then bow three times, touching the floor with their faces each time, to pictures of Rev. Moon and his wife. The alter holds the pictures and is arranged in a way so that when the member makes his bows, he is always facing the direction of Korea. Members are also told that they will have spiritual protection throughout the day, if they carry pictures of True Parents (Moon and his wife) with them in their wallets or close to their hearts wherever they go. They also display these pictures throughout their homes for the same reason. While Moonies publicly profess peaceful unity of religions and cultures in the world. Secretly they have pledged themselves to Moon and Korea. Even bowing to them every week in obedience. The Moonies desire unity all right. All people united under Moon and Korea !
