THE GAKKAI'S SWITCHEROO AND TREMENDOUS FALSEHOODS REGARDING
THE REPORT ON "DAISAKU IKEDA COMMITTING RAPE"
The rape accusations (Shukan Shincho, 2/22/96) of former Soka Gakkai
Hokkaido Joint Territory Women's Division Chief Nobuko Nobuhira (68) have
spread in every direction in ever-widening ripples. Since the shameless
behavior of Soka Gakkai Honorary President Daisaku Ikeda (68) was first
revealed by the victim herself, the accusations are justifiable. However,
Soka Gakkai immediately stated that these accusations are false, and commenced
attacking the character of Nobuhira. Nobuhira knows full well the Gakkai's
methods, and speaks out once again, this time regarding those despicable
attacks.
I revealed Daisaku Ikeda's despicable behavior in last week's issue
of Shukan Shincho, and Soka Gakkai responded exactly as I expected it would
from the very beginning. The facts which I declared only after lengthy
agonizing are the truth, and no one can refute them.
However, there is naturally no way Soka Gakkai will admit to these irrefutable
facts. The reason is because Soka Gakkai, which now consists only of the
worship of Daisaku Ikeda as an idol, fears most of all the revelation of
the true aspect of its idol. Since it cannot refute the facts, its options
are limited.
Up to now, many of those close to Daisaku Ikeda, on the grounds of his
abnormal character, have deserted him, and then have repeatedly denounced
him in the mass media.
The method Soka Gakkai has deployed against those denunciations has
not been to argue with concrete examples. Instead, it has earnestly launched
attacks against the characters of the accusers.
Of course, such infantile methods would never pass muster with society
in general, but for Gakkai members, who are convinced that only the Gakkai
HQ is absolute, this is sufficient, and thus serves the purpose. Since
these "refutations" are not intended for society in general,
but are directed internally toward the members, they are sufficient.
Gakkai members have forsaken the ability to think for themselves and
draw their own conclusions. Indeed, they have been indoctrinated to do
so. They are convinced that everything the Gakkai HQ says is correct. While
unanimously criticizing Aum Shinrikyo over the Aum Incident, they are completely
unaware that they themselves have totally lapsed into a complete cessation
of independent thought, just like the very Aum believers they criticize.
This is the true portrait of Soka Gakkai members today.
Since I joined in 1956, I have successively filled the posts of Hakodate
Zone Women Division's Chief, Hakodate Joint Territory Women's Division
Chief and Hokkaido Joint Territory Women's Divisiom Chief. I served longest
as Hakodate Joint Territory Women's Chief, and for eleven years, I led
as many as eight thouand people.
As a leader, I came into direct contact with Ikeda as part of his entourage,
and I witnessed his speech and conduct up close. So I myself have confessed
to the behavior, no less inferior to that of an animal, which I received
from Ikeda.
It is true without the slightest falsehood that I have been raped by
Ikeda three times.
Since their brainwashed conditions are more to be pitied than laughed
at, if I can awaken even a single Gakkai member, that will be enough for
me.
On the sixteenth, the day after last week's Shukan Shincho went on sale,
I was written up in the Seikyo Shinbun.
"To begin with, Nobuko Nobuhira was once a leader, and it was discovered
that while being a leader, she, in complicity with her husband and through
cunning methods, borrowed tens of million of yen from numerous Gakkai members
and evaded repayment. She would not accept the repeated guidance top leaders
gave to her, and she caused trouble to numerous Gakkai members, so in May,
1992, the Gakkai dismissed her from all of her positions of responsibility,
and following that, she left the Gakkai."
Then, "Nobuhira suffered total defeat in each and every decision
in the trials in which her husband fought against the injured parties over
these money problems. Even during the course of the trials, it became evident
that she is a person who has not the slightest scruples about telling absurd
lies."
Next, "In addition, Nobuko Nobuhira previously exhibited a tendency
to lie when she used to fabricate scandals of money problems or woman problems
about leaders who were not to her liking."
I expected as much, given the methods the Gakkai has employed up to
now, but how dare they write such nonsense!
Of course, this is all a total defamation against me, so I want Soka
Gakkai and Seikyo Shinbun to clearly prove all of this in court. Just who
in the world was it that I "borrowed tens of million of yen from and
evaded repayment?" Also, just what kind of scandals did I "display
a tendency" to lie about? I want the Gakkai to explicitly explain
all of this.
Once again, I wish to reveal to everyone in the nation the true nature
of Soka Gakkai, which has come to employ such despicable measures.
A Despicable Strategy to Pursue Her and Bring her Down
Nobuko Nobuhira entered into the faith with her husband (73), who manages
an electrical contracting firm, on February 26, 1956. That was during the
tenure of Josei Toda as the second president, and since then, Nobuhira
was active as a leader from the earliest days of the Gakkai in Hokkaido.
She was called a "shakubuku fiend" and "election chairwoman."
This woman was first raped by Ikeda on June 27, 1973. It occurred on the
third floor of the main building of the Ounuma Training Center, which the
Gakkai constructed in Hokkaido's Ounuma National Park. Since then, Nobuhira
was twice more assaulted by Ikeda, in the early morning in August, 1983,
in a tea house called Royal on the grounds of the Ounuma Training Center,
and again in the early morning of August 16, 1991, on the grounds of the
training center. Upon receipt of her detailed accusations, on February
15, Soka Gakkai's PR Department lodged a protest to this magazine, saying,
"The article has no basis in fact. Nobuko Nobuhira is a person who
has no scruples about calmly fabricating nonsense."
Nobuko Nobuhira:
I would first like to discuss just what a joke this Gakkai protest is.
In order to do so, I have to retrace the past up to May, 1992, when my
husband and I were dismissed from the Gakkai.
In December, 1990, Ikeda was dismissed from the position of Sokoto (General
Representative of Believers), and in November, 1991, the Gakkai was formally
excommunicated. Since then, the Gakkai has gone overboard in its attacks
against Nichiren Shoshu. In order to make it look as though Nichiren Shoshu's
High Priest Nikken cavorts with geisha, the Gakkai purposely doctored some
photos and published them in its publications. It also fabricated a story
that the High Priest had purchased some prostitutes thirty years ago in
Seattle, USA. The contents of these Gakkai attacks against Nichiren Shoshu
were so atrocious I wanted to avert my eyes.
I began to harbor doubts about the Gakkai. During 1991 and 1992, the
Hakodate Soka Gakkai as well conducted truly despicable attacks against
Nichiren Shoshu. First of all was the "fumi-e" [literally: "stepping
on a picture"]. The Gakkai is now in the Heisei period (1989 to the
present) conducting "fumi-e," which was used in the Edo period
(1600-1885) to root out Christians. [Christianity was largely outlawed
during the Edo period, and the practice of "fumi-e," or having
people step on a painting of Jesus, a cross or some other object sacred
to Christians, was employed to root out those who secretly embraced Christianity
in their hearts. Those who refused to step on the object were considered
to be embracing Christianity in their hearts, and were summarily punished,
usually by immediate death.]
A photo of Nichiren Shoshu's High Priest Nikken was spread out and Gakkai
members were made to step on it. This was done, not to seek out Christians,
but to determine the extent of a person's loyalty to the Gakkai. At the
Ikeda Peace Kaikan in the city of Hakodate, leaders were made to perform
"fumi-e" against photos of the High Priest covering the stairs
between the first and second floors, and were told, "If you don't
step on them, you'll receive punishment."
That is not all. In the second floor Gohonzon room of that building,
they went so far as to stage a play in which they kicked around Nichiren
Shoshu. They put on a narrated skit showing High Priest Nikken being waited
on by geisha and the High Priest's wife going on a shopping spree. In addition,
in the skit they also pilloried the chief priest of the local temple (Shohoji)
in Hakodate.
Severe abuse of Nichiren Shoshu through "fumi-e" and plays
- such is the naked enmity Soka Gakkai harbors toward Nichiren Shoshu.
This oppression of the religious freedom of others' realistically portrays
Soka Gakkai's true aspect, does it not?
Leaders, exploiting elections, arbitrarily collected money from Gakkai
members with the final destination of the money being clouded in uncertainty.
Even that was pushed through in Hakodate unchallenged. As the Joint Territory
Women's Division Chief, I repeatedly criticized such actual cases, which
are unthinkable for a religious organization.
On May 10, 1992, I sent a twenty-one page letter addressed to Ikeda.
In it, I listed the facts about zaimu, elections and the rapes which Ikeda
himself had perpetrated against me, and I held Ikeda responsible for everything.
However, the result was just as I had anticipated.
On May 13, I suddenly received a telephone call from vice-president
Kouzou Takama, the top Hokkaido Soka Gakkai leader. When my husband and
I went to him the next day, we were told, "Give me a letter of resignation.
Any reason whatsoever will be fine."
It was clear that this was Ikeda's response to my letter. We refused,
and the next day at 12:30 p.m. we received a unilateral telephone call
telling us, "You are dismissed." This is the manner in which
I was informed of the end of my Gakkai activities. My thirty-six years
of Gakkai activities came to an extremely unsatisfactory end.
The following week the lawsuits in question jumped out at us. We caught
word that the people responsible for Hakodate Soka Gakkai were going around
to Gakkai members and asking them to tell them about my husband and me,
even down to the slightest, most petty detail. However, I never expected
that three lawsuits would be suddenly and simultaneously filed against
us so fast and with no prior warning.
THE GAKKAI PAID FOR THE TRIALS
Among current Gakkai members are some who were approached by Hakodate
top leaders, who told them, "We're going to pursue and bring down
Nobuhira, so give us your co-operation." According to a former Gakkai
member (45) who resides in the Kameda section of Hakodate, "Just before
Mr. and Mrs. Nobuhira were dismissed, I, too, was asked to co-operate with
the Gakkai's efforts to pursue them and bring them down.
However, in my case, the request came not from the top leaders of Hakodate,
but from Gakkai legal advisors. I was told, "Actually, Honorary President
Ikeda is extremely angry with Nobuhira. She's to be immediately excommunicated
from the Gakkai. Give us your co-operation with these lawsuits." Soon
after I refused, saying that Nobuhira is not the type of person who would
cause that sort of money trouble, I was threatened and was later subjected
to extreme harassment. I immediately left the Gakkai as a result."
Nobuhira:
The lawsuits, all three filed simultaneously, were like thunderbolts
out of the blue. All the lawsuits were filed by Gakkai members, but when
I questioned my husband about them, I was told that some electrical contractors
paid many visits to his firm.
The Gakkai members, who filed the lawsuits, targeted those visitors
and approached my husband with a proposal to lend them money, through my
husband, for the sake of reaping profits from the interest.
As a Gakkai leader, my husband thought it only natural to take care
of the needs of those under him, so he complied with their request and
accomodated them. Then, before he knew what was happening, my husband himself
was accused of "money-lending," and with no negotiations prior
to the fact, the lawsuits were suddenly filed against him.
In his anger, my husband himself confronted the trials alone, without
hiring an attorney. He believed without a doubt that the truth would win
out in the trials, and felt that he had no need for an attorney. However,
he obtained neither the preparatory documents which were filed nor a summary
of them, as they were shrewdly guarded by the three Gakkai attorneys, and
so ended up losing the cases.
As may be expected, under the advice of others, my husband finally consented
to hire an attorney, and the cases are now being contested in court.
These were truly strange lawsuits. They were all three filed simultaneously
with no prior negotiations and the Gakkai paid all the attorney fees of
the plaintiffs. Truly, these were lawsuits whose sole purpose was to pursue
and bring down my husband and me.
The following are comments from the husband (an insurance agent currently
residing in Esashi) of one of the three plaintiffs.
"Since the lawsuit was filed by my wife, I don't know all the details.
However, I'm certain that the Gakkai took care of the trial's expenses
for her. In the first place, the lawsuit was filed after top leaders of
Hakodate told her, 'This is a Gakkai trial, so don't worry about the cost.'
Being a Gakkai trial, I guess it was only natural that the Gakkai would
pay for it. It seems that this all arose from my wife's borrowing money
from someone and then loaning it to Nobuhira's husband. That's all I know
about it."
Sapporo attorney Nobuya Uchida, who is currently in charge of the lawsuits
as Nobuhira's representative, says, "Surely, had he engaged an attorney
from the very beginning, the course of events would have been quite different.
Her husband is over 70 years old and suddenly faced three lawsuits all
by himself.
Furthermore, he is not a legal expert, so his preparatory documents
were in disarray. They went unused, since he did not understand just exactly
what was proven by the documents which the other side made tremendous efforts
in submitting.
The very fact that these three lawsuits were filed simultaneously and
that just before they were filed the Nobuhira's were dismissed from their
Gakkai positions of responsibility shows that these are not simple requests
for loan repayments."
WE WILL DEVOTE OUR ENTIRE LIFES
Nobuhira:
The Gakkai has become such an organization which can calmly commit such
acts. Then they go on to expand upon those lies through the Seikyo Shinbun
saying, "In addition, Nobuko Nobuhira previously displayed a tendency
to lie when she used to fabricate scandals of money problems or women problems
about leaders who were not to her liking."
Just who in the world are they describing? I have consulted Women's
Division members who have been sexually harassed by Hakodate's top leaders
and they have denounced those top leaders. I am of course not one who has
fabricated scandals about others. It is Soka Gakkai which is shamelessly
fabricating ridiculous stories. However, it goes without saying that the
entire make-up of Soka Gakkai is due to Daisaku Ikeda.
I encountered Ikeda and his entourage when they came almost yearly to
the Ounuma Trainig Center. Ikeda is a profoundly jealous person. I was
often shocked by his lack of consideration for the feelings of others.
He would habitually say, as though he trusted no one, "Protect me,
protect me." Then he would shout, "Hey, you! Akiya!" at
President Einosuke Akiya in public, giving not the slightest thought to
the man's self-esteem.
The night of the first rape I slept not a single wink out of mortification,
and the next morning, Ikeda calmly declared to me, "Did you sleep
well last night? Your eyes are a little red."
Also, in the summer of 1991, a few days after his assault against me,
Ikeda spotted some hydrangea flowers growing in a pot at the Ikeda Peace
Kaikan and blurted out, "Ah, these are 'Nobuhira flowers.' 'Number
Two' flowers. Number Twos quietly blossom behind the scenes."
Ikeda continually called me "Number Two" since the first rape
incident, thus completely mocking me, old woamn that I've become, to the
very end. This is the kind of man Ikeda is.
What has made me most happy about my current denunciation is that I
have made my two sons aware of the fact that their mother has been defiled
by Ikeda.
For thirty-six years we sacrificed everything in order to promote Gakkai
activities, not even eating our evening meals together as a family, and
this is the result.
Just after my younger son was born, I spent everyday carrying him on
my back as I walked around doing shakubuku while thinking about where I
could next change his diaper. While returning home from an evening meeting,
my napping elder son tumbled off the seat in my husband's car. The scar
on his head remains to this day. At the time, through his tears he said
to my husband, "This is an injury for the sake of kosen-rufu. Let's
persevere."
We have exerted our utmost to just such an extent for kosen-rufu, and
this is how they treat us. So, what can I say about the Seikyo Shinbun's
fabricated stories? Only, what nerve they have to calmly write such lies.
My husband and I have decided to devote the rest of our lives to showing
the people of this country the true natures of Daisaku Ikeda and Soka Gakkai.
The truth is on my side, so I am not afraid of anything. We are doing this
to repay our debt of gratitude to the Gohonzon, and on the other hand,
this is the only way we can erradicate the negative causes we had made
by assisting Soka Gakkai to grow so large.
