Islam is a religion of peace and order. Contrary to what many acts of violence by extremist groups may convey, Islam never encourages or tolerates the killing, kidnapping and oppressing of the innocent. The Qur`an teaches that the killing of one innocent equals the killing of all people.
The main stream of Islam is the Sunnite sect, which accounts for approximately 95% of all Muslims. The other main sect is the Shi'ite sect who lives mainly in Iran and Iraq and makes minorities in Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
